Susan commented on her Pitman Franchise process:

"I never believe I would be operating my very own franchise, you just never know what is round the corner. Being my own boss has always been a bit of a pipe dream, something that's always been at the back of my mind. I was always quite apprehensive as I wasn't entirely sure what I had to do or whether I could take the risk of owning my own Franchise.
I left school when I was 16 (now 56) with just a few 'O' Levels under my belt. I then proceeded to go straight into work as a junior in the local bank; working my way up the ladder to become one of the first Bank Receptionists in the country! It only took 5 years untl I felt it was time for a change and I returned to college. Whilst at college I managed to hone my Secretarial Skills to help me with my next role with a company f Management Consultants in London. At this point in my career my two children and family life began to overtake and ultimately put my career on hold.

Susan returned to work a few years later in a school. She was working in the Learning Resources Centre where she was assisting young children with their book and computer based studies. She remained in this role for 12 years until she decided to move on and do something differently. She then became Office Manager for a CV writing company that was expanding rapidly throughout the UK and overseas. She then developed invaluable experience when she became Head of UK Operations; This ultimately gave her a taste of what running the show was like.

"I was responsible for Accounts and Payroll, and I decided to have some training as I believed my skills could do with some refreshing. This is where I found the Pitman Training Franchise, as they provided exactly what I required. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience with Pitman Training, they were both friendly and professional. Sometime later my daughter wanted to undertake some additional training that I knew Pitman Training could provide. Susan then proceeded to have discussions with her husband, that resulted in them proceeding to see exactly what the opportunity was on offer. Susan talks about acquiring her franchise:

"I have now been operating my Pitman Training Franchise within my Chelmsford territory for around 5 months, and it's certainly been a very steep learning curve. Some of the tasks I've been involved with have included assisting students, marketing the business, keeping the books and ensuring the IT runs effectively but I would not have it any other way. I'm currently in the position where I have one member of staff that acquired during the acquisition of the previous franchise. She has been a real help as she understands the day to day running of the business. I hope within the next 6 months to take on another member of staff to enhance the business and spread the workload!
I purchased the Re-Sale Franchise for around £80,000, which was assisted by a bank loan (which was far easier than I had anticipated). I'm hoping to exceed £150,000 turnover within my first year of operating my Pitman Training Franchise.
