Meet James from Clear Brew Wiltshire

Running around after two teenagers, holding down a monotonous corporate job, and trying to keep on top of life left James exhausted and deflated. He realised it was time for a change and set out to find a new path. Here we explore James’ journey from the corporate world to joining Clear Brew.

Where it all started

Prior to joining Clear Brew, James spent the majority of his working life in the tech industry selling software for large American companies. For the last 10 years he resided in a leadership role that involved managing teams of people. It was during this time that James discovered Clear Brew through a former colleague. Knowing that James has a passion for pubs and beer, his colleague thought it could be a good fit. James was intrigued and kept it at the back of his mind for some time. Eventually, his work began coming to a natural end and he started thinking about what he would like to do next. He decided he wanted to do something different and started to explore beer line cleaning. The Clear Brew name once again came up and that’s when James reached out to begin his journey.

The journey to joining Clear Brew

James knew he wanted to work in an environment that he is passionate about and interested in. He had spent a long time tolerating work that didn’t necessarily captivate him anymore. He enjoyed meeting new people and building relationships, and this is something that no longer existed within his tech role. It was time to make a positive change. James realised that although his tech career was very different to Clear Brew, the skills he had attained were a perfect fit. He would be able to hit the road, meet new people, and build relationships in an industry that sparked his interest. It was the ideal combination! Alongside this, James also liked the idea of owning a business, being his own boss, and operating his own territory.

Taking the leap

Everything was aligning for James. He could see that this was the right move for him and began preparing for his new venture. He looked into developing a list of prospects and created a database. He wanted to make sure that he had prepared as much as he could prior to training and now felt like he was ready. Ready to take the leap. Ready to officially start his Clear Brew business.

Training with Clear Brew

James eagerly made his way to Cornwall to complete his training at central office. He realised the importance of this step as he often undertook training in his previous role.

The team at central office had arranged for James to go on several beer lines cleans. It was important for him to witness the service first-hand and learn all there is to know about the Clear Brew process directly from our expert technicians. When he wasn’t on the road, James spent his time at central office learning the theory side of the business. Armed with all the knowledge he needed, James left central office confident about getting his new business up and running.

Setting short-term and long-term goals

On his return home, James made a plan to line up all his admin, accounts, and social media before he starts prospecting. Overtime he hopes to establish his business and quickly reach the point where he can spend plenty of time with his family. Running around after two teenagers is not for the faint-hearted, but the Clear Brew business model allows James to leave the unruly hours of corporate life behind and create a better work/life balance. During the first year, James is aiming to welcome 15-20 customers. When he hits 25, he plans to review the business, possibly take on an extra pair of hands to help and continue building from there.

It’s not all work and no play

When James isn’t working, he spends time with his teenagers and coaches’ rugby. The Clear Brew business model will give him the time to regain his love for cooking which overtime has merely become a functional task. James also enjoys socialising and is always keeping busy.

A life changing move

James believes that Clear Brew will massively impact his life for the better. He was beginning to find corporate life challenging and sees a much brighter future for himself. He would also like to encourage others who feel stuck and deflated to reach out for support and understand that there are other options, you can start again, and you can create a career you are happy with. Personal gain aside, James also sees the positive impact he can have on the hospitality industry and looks forward to taking on this rewarding role and supporting local businesses.
